This album contains a practice session of music for a show at The Birdhouse in Philadelphia. This is an early practice run with all the flat notes, unsure melodies, missed guitar parts, and awkwardness you would expect from an early dry run. i will not shower you with compliments and platitudes that you will both disbelieve and ignore. i don't want to say what i know you've already heard countless times before. i'll just tell you that talking first and hearing later let me see that you are far imbued (and few imbibed) with qualities that do not meet the ear. but rather, complexities, nuancities, and anxieties that made me (sincere . . . ly) love jesus more to see artist and her craft both live there in such a paradox and dissonance that i cannot seem to figure out, but leaves me in silent awe as i revel in the glory of how deep one person can be throughout. in short, it's beautiful. it's beautiful.

My Cali Girl? Oh, God, I knew it!! Right when I stopped seeking is right when I would find the right one! I mean, the right one? Because I don’t know . . . First inductee into the club of my infatuation So many years ago, but only for a time. Shot down once, so I moved right along, Losing closeness day by day, week by week, month by month Class by class But now you’re back- But I thought you left! Off to see the real sunset and the real ocean, And the real you; but nonetheless. Strange occurrences accompany this new reacquaintance: Images of rings and white and things so right flood my conscious mind; Images of laying and lying And praying and dying For You: A face horizontal caressed by sunlight slits through bedroom blinds days, years after a honeymoon shared. Counting wrinkles day by day And counting sheep night by night Beside you. But the night is dark and hard to see Are you the face that's been haunting me? I strain my eyes, while confusion sets in, And now you’re coming back, away from real sunsets, and real oceans, The real you - Is it a sign? Oh God, I don’t know it!

[end of "Poseidon"] I am your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Though the mountains be tossed into the heart, of the sea You will not fear. You will need me. I will make it so. So wake up, oh wake up Odysseus. Wake up.... ["Calypso's Cave"] I’m up. I’m awake. I roll over. She’s not there. My mind turns, to better days. Former loves before I fell away. How far I’ve come - away from you. Oh, there’s lover, across the sea. I long to feel her breath upon my neck. My body groans, my spirit aches for redemption to come and to be joined to her It’s here. He’s here. He’s sent someone to my aid. She bargains well. He does better. How far I’ve come - away from you. Oh, there’s lover, across the sea. I long to feel her breath upon my neck. My body groans, my spirit aches for redemption to come and to be joined to her Calypso sings to me, trying to win me back but I’ve seen outside the cave Former loves will not do, shadows won’t satisfy now that I’ve seen my unseen chains A battle lies before, a battle for true love I go now against the tide I may fail or conquer, die or live, but either way I’m yours. Oh, there’s lover, across the sea. I long to feel her breath upon my neck. My body groans, my spirit aches for redemption to come and to be joined to her

My left hand rings out against the wine glass Your reddish-hue still burning upon the edge of yours. A simple business meal suddenly changes tone. My hand receives a gentle touch; My ears receive a simple proposition. You want me to love you, and I swear I do. But not in the way you want. The right to know me as one is just for my bride alone- the one whom I sealed upon my wrist But I long for thee with a poet’s heart but a poet’s words are never enough, To express on paper, in verse or voice just what’s going on inside. So as a soldier will die for his nation alone and a martyr for his cause. So will a Lover give Himself just for His Bride . . .
